President's Message

On behalf of the Sri Lanka Dental Association, I warmly welcome all of you to our most awaited academic event of the year. Living In a time with rapid development of technical innovations and change of concept taking place, practicing dentistry needs constant updating of their knowledge and skills to maintain the standards of practice.

In the past eight decades the SLDA has made significant contributions to the advancement of Oral & Dental health care in Sri Lanka & continues to play a major role in formulating policy & good practice in this important field of health.

The sessions provide a great opportunity for the dental practitioner be it in the government or private sector to update their knowledge, skills and there technique in their practices for the benefit of the patients.

The annual scientific sessions 2017 will be held with the contribution of very eminent personalities both foreign and local who will share their knowledge to broaden the knowledge in important aspects of dentistry which will be of paramount importance to a us. Dentistry, though evolved for many centuries, did not receive its due recognition in Srilanka until recently. We proudly celebrated a century of dentistry in Srilanka.

Fortunately the situation in Srilanka has improved tremendously. The dentistry practiced in Srilanka is in par with any developed nations and the delivery is of very high quality, which is not second to any, be it the private or government sector. There is a high demand for dentistry. The internet exposure, globalization, education of the general public and contributions by key dental professionals in the country for its upliftment are factors contributed to the equal recognition of the dental profession.
Dental professional have reached top positions in the health setup in srilanka. The minister of health, Vice chancellor of universities, Deans of Medical Schools, Deputy Director General of Health, Chairman University Grants Commission, chair professors in medical schools, Heads of Departments in medical schools, Head of medical core of different armed forces are all top positions dental graduates in Srilanka as reached.

On behalf of the council of the Sri Lanka Dental Association I take this opportunity thank all speakers foreign and local who will be leaving there busy schedules aside to be with us and the sponsors without whom the sessions may not be a reality. I also warmly welcome all the participants who will be having there trade stalls at the event. I invite all of you to participate and be present not only to gain the benefit in acquiring knowledge but also to justify the efforts by our association.

In an era such as this, there seems to be a reluctance amongst our membership to take on the responsibilities of leadership.

We have devoted our sessions to revisit the multi faceted role of leadership that the seniors have achieved this decade.

We have a minister, a Director General, Vice Chancellor, Entrepreneurs, Educationists, Investors, Artists and Others who have reached the pinnacle in various aspects of leadership roles in society. Finding out how they came to this position will be a great motivating factor for the young Dental Surgeons.

It is indeed an honour and privilege to invite you to the 84th year SLDA Annual Scientific Sessions & FDI Global CE Programme scheduled for 23rd & 24th June 2017 at Galle Face Hotel, Colombo. The conference will feature highly respected speakers who will deliver interesting lectures based on new development and scientific advancement pertaining to the profession. that will impact the future of dentistry.

Planned programme will provide valued opportunities of continuing education for Dental Surgeons from all fields of endeavor as well as for the researches and industry supporters.

Sri Lanka Dental Association flourishes as the leading institution in organized dentistry in Sri Lanka, being established during the colonial era in the year 1932, nearly 84 years ago to date. With the rapid growth of membership today it has become the most outstanding institution representing dental professionals in Sri Lanka.

Apart from the well-organized scientific programme including workshops and lectures, the inauguration of Professor S B Dissanayake Memorial Oration and fellowship will offer the participants an fantastic opportunity to develop camaraderie and cordiality among our colleagues while enjoying cuisines with warm hospitality and culture.
